The post is neither edited nor deleted. Doesn’t Eric understand instructions?
Having read Eric’s bio on the sideboard, I look forward to reading his blog. Assisted death is a subject of interest to me.
Yay! So glad you’ve joined FTB!
Very lovely banner art, too!
The grammar stickler in me can’t resist pointing out a teensy-weensy ity-bitty thing that’s itching at me, though. (It’s such a tiny little quibble I’m half ashamed to bring it up, and yet—itch itch itch I must scratch it!—I can’t stop myself from saying something.) The hyphens in the subheading “Arguing for the Right-To-Die…,” are they maybe not correct?
e.g., “right-to-die lawsuit” or “right-to-die movement” = yes hyphens, ’cause they’re compound adjectives which modify the nouns “lawsuit” and “movement” respectively, but “arguing for the right to die” = no hyphens, ’cause it’s just a noun phrase in that case?
(Ugh, most pedantic comment ever! What’s wrong with me today?! Sorry.)
Hi Eric!
Welcome Eric!
Welcome, and was great to see you at Eschaton.
I look forward to your blogs. Welcome!
Artymorty, no doubt you are correct in what you call the “most pedantic comment ever”, but I do want clearly to demarcate a specific right, and turning a noun-phrase into a complex noun seemed to me the way to go. Much like German forms words by fusing words together, English can do something similar with hyphens, and just because it is not often done is no reason not to do it.
I’m enjoying a second lease of life after leukaemia and a stem cell transplant, but have been left with a lung condition* which may well make my life intolerable to me within the next 10 to 20 years.
I’m looking forward to the content for your blog with gently morbid anticipation….
Long time occasional lurker and very rare commenter on your old site. I’d like to welcome you to FTB. I’ll remember to read your writing, which is always good, much more frequently now.
it’s alive!
Welcome!!!
Cool, Eric!
